The Home feed offers the opportunity for you to customize the content you see and the brands and users you follow.
As a NEW user:
Once you sign up for an Outside account, you'll have the chance to sign up for a local newsletter, delivered to your inbox weekly.
You'll receive a pop-up modal to follow authors and brands in your feed:
You'll also receive a Welcome Home modal, which will provide you with more information on what you can find in your feed:
To find friends and brands, just click in the right-hand search bar:
You will automatically be subscribed to Outside content, and you can view your friends and followers under your Outside profile.
You can choose to unfollow content at any time by clicking on the 3 vertical dots to the right of any post in the feed.
As an EXISTING user:
If you are an existing user through Outside, your feed experience should mimic the flow above for setting up your feed. If you had previous followers through Trailforks, your followers should be carried over to your Outside profile.
Note: At this time, you may see a difference in followers between your Outside profile and your Trailforks profile. The number of followers you see may vary depending on the products that your followers use. We are working to have parity between the feed experiences, but there will be differences between platforms.
You can still choose to unfollow content at any time by clicking on the 3 vertical dots to the right of any post in the feed.
You can find and follow users and brands by clicking on the right-hand search bar within the feed.
If you wish to unfollow content but not unfollow a user, you can do so through the Trailforks feed experience.
I'm an avid backpacker; I want to see backpacking content and share some of my favorite backpacking routes with only the friends that follow me. How do I do this?
As a backpacker, you may be interested in content from Backpacker. You can click on the search bar in your feed on the right-hand side, and type in Backpacker. From here, you can click on the '+Follow' button to follow stories from Backpacker magazine.
If you are reading an article by an author on Backpacker (or any of our brands), and you really like this author, you can click on the 'Follow' button right on the article to continue following a particular author's content. You can follow individual authors or a full brand to see all content from the magazine.
You can also high-five the article, repost the article to your own feed, or share the article externally.
If you want to create a track of your backpacking route, we recommend that you use Gaia GPS to plan out your adventure.
Importantly, before embarking on your backpacking adventure, if you wish to SHARE your backpacking adventure to your feed but you only want your followers to see your track, set your profile to PRIVATE and your activity privacy setting to FOLLOWERS ONLY.
You can still share your backpacking route with friends externally via Gaia GPS, but your route will not be published to the feed if you have set your privacy on the track to 'Only Me.'
I love trail running; I want to see running content in my feed and share my runs with my followers. I also wish to see some of the runs that my fellow runners are doing. How can I accomplish this with the Home feed?
As a trail runner, you'll likely be interested in content from our RUN site. You can follow Trail Runner content directly by searching for Trail Runner in the search bar on the right-hand side of your feed.
If you find yourself really loving content from a specific author, you can click right on the article and follow that author directly from the article. You can also give the article a high-five and repost the article to your own feed. You also have the option to externally share the article.
Since you are an avid runner, we recommend that you use the Trailforks app to record your runs or activities. You can also connect your Garmin device or Strava account to automatically share your runs to your feed.
Since you only want your followers to see your activities, it's important that you set your activity privacy settings to 'FOLLOWERS ONLY.' If you have connected your device or account, ensure that your Device Sync Settings are also set to 'FOLLOWERS ONLY.'
If you'd like to also see runs from your friends, follow your friends by searching for their name or Trailforks username in the search bar on your feed. You can also find friends to follow on the Trailforks website directly.
