You can connect your device and publish directly to the feed through the device hub, which can be accessed via the Trailforks website and app, the Gaia GPS website and app, and through your Outside profile.
How do I connect my devices to the device hub?
Visit the Device Connection Hub by clicking on the dropdown menu under your profile icon. Select Settings, and click on Connect Devices and Services. The Device Connection Hub allows you to connect external devices, manage your device connections and data, and update your device privacy settings.
Note: these device privacy settings are held separately from your profile and activity feed privacy settings. For more information on how to manage your Outside account privacy settings, please visit this article.
What kind of devices can I connect?
In addition to connecting your Garmin device and Strava account, you can also connect the following list of devices & services:
Syncing to Garmin and/or Strava
If you have synced your Garmin device or your Strava account, your activities recorded on Garmin/Strava will automatically be ingested into your activity log. Your activities will also be publicly shared on the activity feed if your device sync settings are set to 'Followers' or 'Everyone.'
If your activity was recorded with a Garmin device, your activity post will have a blue triangle.
If your activity was recorded on Strava, your activity post will have a red Strava icon.
If your Garmin device is connected to Strava, your activity post will show both icons.
Example:
Note: Your Strava privacy zones are not kept when activities are imported into the feed. You can set up your privacy zones within the Device Hub privacy settings; these privacy zones will apply to any Trailforks-recorded activities, and if your device brand affiliation is set to Trailforks. Privacy zones do NOT apply to Gaia GPS tracks.
What if my device isn’t syncing properly?
Synced activities can take time to upload into the feed and your activity log. If you are not seeing your most recent rides or activities show up in your activity log or in the feed, please ensure that your connection is correctly set-up via the external device platform (example: Garmin Connect app, Strava account, etc.).
You may need to disconnect and reconnect your device via the Device Hub to allow for syncing to occur.
Where can I manage my data for synced activities through the device hub?
You can view your activity log through your connected device via Manage Your Data. Your most recent ridelogs or activities should appear here for your connected devices as long as you have accurately connected your device or account.
You can also view your recently recorded tracks via device under 'Saved Items' in your Gaia GPS account and under 'My Activities' in your Trailforks account.
For information on recording tracks and connecting to the feed for Gaia GPS, please see this article.
For information on recording ridelogs/activities and connecting to the feed for Trailforks, please see this article.
How can I check if my recorded activities have been shared to the feed?
You can see what has been published to the feed under Activities in your Outside profile. Once you have signed in with your Outside credentials, click on 'Profile' on the right-hand side dropdown, and under your profile, you should see your recent posts under Activities.
If you wish to remove an activity or track from your activities and the feed, you can 'delete the post.'
How do my privacy settings in the device hub differ from my privacy settings in my Outside account?
The privacy settings for synced devices are DIFFERENT from the privacy settings through your Outside profile and your Gaia GPS Profile.
For example: You can have your default activity feed privacy settings set to 'Only You,' but if you have your device hub sync settings set to 'Followers,' then any synced activities will publish to the feed for your followers to see. To access the settings for your synced device, please visit the 'Device Connection Hub' and go to 'Manage Connections.'
Under your synced device settings (example: Garmin below), you will have the option to change the privacy of your synced activities. If you have enabled 'Followers' or 'Everyone' to see your synced activities, these tracks will publish to the feed.
Why am I seeing synced activities published twice in my feed?
In your device sync settings, under 'Manage Connections,' you will have the option to choose a brand affiliation for your synced activities. If you choose Gaia GPS as your brand affiliation, and ALSO Sync Activities to Gaia GPS, your tracks or activities via your Garmin device will appear as Gaia GPS affiliated and will appear in your Gaia GPS account as tracks.
However, if you choose Trailforks as your brand affiliation, but also sync activities to Gaia GPS, you may see duplication in what uploads to your feed and appears in the Gaia GPS app. You may see ridelogs or tracks appear twice in your feed and across platforms. To avoid duplication, choose one mapping app affiliation and syncing status per device you sync.
