🔁 Switching your membership from Outside+ to Outside Digital:
For Outside+ members who signed up for a membership AFTER March 1st, 2024, we now offer a self-service option to move your subscription from Outside+ to Outside Digital.
Below are the details on how it works, who’s eligible, and what to expect.
🧩 Who can switch to Outside Digital on their own?
You can change your plan on your own if:
- You subscribed to Outside+ through our editorial websites, such as outsideonline.com, backpacker.com, velo.outsideonline.com, etc.
- You signed up for an Outside+ membership AFTER March 1, 2024.

🛠️ How to switch to Outside Digital (step by step):
- Log in to your account.
- Select Subscription from the right-hand menu.
- Click Manage Subscription.
- Choose the Outside Digital plan.
- Confirm your selection
- You’ll see the confirmation reflected under your Subscription details; we’ll also email you when the change is scheduled.
📅 When does my plan switch?
Your plan change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Until that date, you’ll have access to all Outside+ benefits (maps, perks, courses, etc.). On your renewal date, your plan will update to Outside Digital, and you’ll be charged $59.99/year (plus any applicable taxes). Following the plan update, your subscription will renew at the then-current annual price every 12 months unless you cancel.
Example: If your renewal date is on November 15, and you select Outside Digital on October 1, you’ll keep Outside+ until November 15. On November 15, your plan will change to Outside Digital, billed at $59.99/year. Even if you make a plan change on a different date from your renewal date, you will retain your original renewal date.
Will my plan switch immediately?
No — all plan changes take effect on your next billing date. This ensures you get the full value of your current Outside+ cycle.
📦 What changes after I switch?
As an Outside digital member, you will keep:
✅ Unlimited article access across Outside’s network
✅ Ability to comment on articles
You’ll no longer have access to:
- Outside TV streaming
- Outside Learn courses
- Gaia GPS Premium & Trailforks Pro
- Subscriber perks & discounts
- Scout (AI gear advisor)
- MapMyFitness MVP
🗑️ Can I cancel instead of downgrading?
Yes, we offer the option for you to instead fully cancel the auto-renewal of your membership.
If you’d rather cancel your membership completely:
1. Go to your Account Page → Subscription → Manage Subscription.
2. Select Cancel Subscription.
3. Your cancellation will take effect at the end of your billing cycle.
You can also cancel your scheduled subscription change by clicking on: "Cancel Subscription" on your Subscription page.
IMPORTANT note: if you have an upcoming scheduled subscription change, clicking on 'Cancel Subscription' will NOT cancel your current Outside+ membership. This cancellation flow will ONLY cancel the scheduled subscription change.
Going through this cancellation flow will CANCEL only your scheduled subscription change.
If you wish to also cancel your current Outside+ membership, you will need to first cancel your scheduled subscription change. Then, you will need to follow the steps once more to cancel your current Outside+ membership. If your Outside+ membership states ACTIVE, your auto-renewal is NOT cancelled.
